The solar charge controller is a device placed between the PV panel and the battery pack to control the electric energy generated by the solar panel entering into the battery. The main function is to ensure that the battery is properly charged and prevent overcharging. There is no better between pwm or mppt solar controller, and the choice depends on personal needs.What voltage should a mppt solar controller be set at and what voltage should a pwm solar controller be set at?

 

PWM means pulse width modulation solar charger controller: it is a current control type, which will switch the input current of photovoltaic array in PWM pulse mode. When the battery tends to be fully charged, the pulse width will be shortened.

 

MPPT - maximum power point tracking solar charger controller. Multiply the voltage U and current I of the solar cell to get the power P, and then judge whether the output power of the solar cell reaches the maximum at the current time. If it is not running at the maximum power point, adjust the pulse width, modulate the output duty cycle D, change the charging current, conduct real-time sampling again, and judge whether to change the duty cycle. This optimization process can ensure that the solar cell always runs at the maximum power point to make full use of the output energy of the solar cell array. MPPT solar charge regulator can increase the power generation of solar modules and maximize the efficiency of using the power of solar modules; 20-30% more power generation than PWM PV charger controller.

In the past, when the MPPT was released by the market-first research, the price of PWM has doubled, but the technical maturity has come, and the production process has continued to decline.Currently there is mainly 4 types batteries in the solar power system: AGM, GEL, Flood and lithium battery. For each type battery, the absorption voltage and floating charge voltage is different, AGM battery is 14.4Vdc and 13.4Vdc, GEL battery is 14.2Vdc and 13.2Vdc, Flood battery is 14.8Vdc and 13.8Vdc, lithium battery is 14.4Vdc and 13.5Vdc and other lithium battery voltage could be custom program on the LCD screen through buttons. If your battery is not among these types, our MPPT solar charge controller also supports custom program with customized voltage for your choice, 0.1Vdc each step for absorption and floating voltage.

 

Considering the working environment and battery self-temperature, we have a temperature sensor cable for connecting MPPT solar charge controller to batterys shell, the compensation value is -3.3mv/cell. It will slightly adjust the charging voltage and curve according to the battery temperature, the battery temperature rises after charging, the voltage will drop due to temperature compensation and if the battery temperature is lower than 25 degree, it will give positive voltage compensation. This battery temperature compensation function will greatly improve the charging efficiency on MPPT solar charge controller.
