Do I need UPS if I have inverter?
Do I need UPS if I have inverter? People are not sure if they still need UPS when they have inverter already. Now we will discuss about UPS and inverter.
UPS and inverter
UPS and inverter are two main power solutions.
The definition of UPS are as below:
- UPS is uninterruptible power supply.
- If computer, equipment or medical instruments are turned off without notice, we may lose some important data. A ups can provide devices continuous power. It can transfer from the mains power to battery power very quickly.
- UPS =inverter + battery charger
- UPS can only provide backup power for 10-20mins. Its main purpose is to provide a little backup to save data.
- The UPS can also protect against surges, voltage fluctuations, undervoltage, overvoltage, spikes and noise on the line.
Inverter:
- The inverter converts the DC electricity from the battery to AC power.
- The inverter is as a backup power for all household appliances.
- The inverter stores electrical energy in battery.
- The user life of inverter is 3-5 years.
Difference between inverter and ups
The main difference between inverter and ups are as below:
- Backup time
A UPS can provide about 15mins of equipment backup, but the inverter can provide backup power for a few hours.
- Maintenance and longevity
A UPS does not require any maintenance. But the inverter needs regular maintenance because the dust, environment and other factors may influence the user life. The batteries of UPS are still charged and discharged even though there is no power outrage. Thus the battery of UPS lasts 4-5 times as long as the battery of inverter.
- Price
Compared to inverter, UPS is more expensive. UPS can only provide backup power for a limited time, however the inverter can provide power for a long time.
Inverter for home use
Which should I choose, UPS or inverter for home use? This depends on your purpose. If you want to maintain data security, you can choose UPS for your company or organization. If you want to save cost, you may choose inverter for your home appliances.
Do I need UPS if I have inverter?
Some people may be worried about the inverter’s ability to deal with a PC failure and want to install a UPS. It’s OK if you don’t want to utilize the main inverter’s PC instead of connecting to a UPS.
However, not all UPS can work with inverters. Some UPS are square wave, but some inverters are pure sine wave. If you need, you can contact our technicians for more information.
