What is hybrid inverter?

 

Hybrid inverter is an electronic device that combines power inverter and battery charger in one unit. It allows solar panels to intelligently transfer excess energy into the battery, which is very significant because solar production reaches its peak in the daytime while energy demand reaches its peak at night.

 

Hybrid inverters are usually used in combination with solar power systems to allow the use of grid-connected and off-grid configurations. They are also used for micro-grids, which are small power grids that can operate independently or jointly with large power grids. It can also work with AC power which gives you more flexibility in how to use solar power systems, because you can now choose to use the grid or solar panels as the main power source, or run your home without solar energy at all.

 

 

What is the Difference between a Hybrid Inverter and a Power Inverter?

 

Both power inverters and hybrid inverters are widely used to convert solar energy into electric energy. Hybrid inverters are one of the latest innovations in the solar PV system world. And some hybrid inverters can use solar and wind energy combination, or off-grid and grid-connected combination.

 

Power inverters can be divided into pure sine wave inverters, modified sine wave inverters, off-grid solar inverters or grid-connected solar inverters, single-phase solar inverters or three-phase solar inverters, etc.

 

Power inverter is a device that converts DC to AC. Batteries store energy in the form of direct current, while appliances in our homes need alternating current. So the inverter converts stored energy into alternating current as and when needed to power the house. When you have a power failure in your home, the inverter can supply power to the electrical appliances.

 

The hybrid inverter is based on the upgrade of solar inverter. It includes the function of power inverter, converting DC to AC, and adding built-in solar controller, such as MPPT or PWM type. Therefore, to be precise, the hybrid inverter is a solar inverter with a built-in charging controller.

 

To conclude, as more and more people enter into new energy era, more manufacturers are coming up with the latest innovations. A hybrid inverter is essentially a combination of an inverter, a charge controller, and a grid-tie function. The main difference between an inverter and a hybrid inverter is that a hybrid inverter can work with both renewable and traditional energy sources, while an inverter can only work with renewable energy sources.
